SMALL AND GENERAL BUSINESS TAX BREAK "Investment Allowance" 20/05/2009
Further to our March 2009 newsletter we are now able to advise that legislation was passed through Parliament on 14th May 2009 which may provide businesses with strong incentives to invest in new “eligible” assets, under certain conditions.
This legislation includes additional benefits announced in the 2009 Federal Budget which enhance the provisions of the “Investment Allowance” originally announced in December 2008. In order to be an “eligible asset”, the asset must be new, tangible, used principally within Australia for the purpose of carrying on a business and qualify for the capital allowance deduction under income tax depreciation provisions.
Assets such as computer hardware (but not software), shop fittings, motor vehicles used in your business operations and machinery used in manufacturing are examples of eligible assets.
